6th K-UE Alpine Tour Tyrol
The journey over the Hahntennjoch and Pillerhöhe to Serfaus was an experience in itself. Despite the bad weather, the atmosphere was excellent, and the views of the Alps were breathtaking. Unfortunately, our Club President Walter Köhler and his wife Christel had to cancel their participation in this Alpine tour. Our vice-president Alexander Kukk was also able to join us a day later as he had to attend a meeting of the Velvet Red Special Beetles in Einbeck.
On Sunday we all went for a walk on the Panorama Pleasure Trail with views of Serfaus and Fiss.
On Monday we finally made our first trip to the Reschensee. Due to the relocation of the main road 40, the Reschensee was completely drained, which created a very special scenery: only the basin with the church tower of Altgraun was still under water. Due to heavy snowfall at the end of May, the Stelvio Pass and Timmelsjoch were closed to motorised traffic, giving us the opportunity to make a fascinating detour into the Langtauferer Valley. We drove up to the picturesque village of Melag at an altitude of 1915 metres. The views of the Ötztal Alps were simply breathtaking! We then travelled on to Glurns, a picturesque little town in the Vinschgau Valley, which is still completely surrounded by a town wall.
On Tuesday we travelled along the famous Kaunertal Glacier Road. We started at the toll station at Feichten and drove up to the Gepatsch reservoir, where we parked the Beetles on the dam wall. We then took a series of hairpin bends to Weißsee, which was still largely frozen over - a real highlight! The trip ended at the Weißseeferner car park, where we took the Karlsjochbahn cable car up to the Dreiländerblick viewing platform. The view of the spectacular mountains of Italy, Switzerland and Austria was simply amazing!
Wednesday was another hiking day! Unfortunately, we had to change our original plan to walk the Quellenweg from Fisser Joch to Serfaus. The path was closed due to snow. Instead, we were able to explore the mountains of Fiss and Serfaus on our own - using the cable cars and hiking trails.
On Thursday, we took the Beetles through the picturesque Paznaun Valley to Galtür. We travelled along the spectacular Silvretta High Alpine Road. From Galtür, the Beetles climbed the Bieler Höhe at the Silvretta reservoir. After a short break and a photo stop at the Vermunt reservoir, we took the hairpin bends and serpentines down to Partenen. There we turned around and took the same route back to Bieler Höhe. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't so good and it started to rain. We enjoyed a well-deserved break at a café and then headed back to Serfaus.
On Friday we went to Samnaun. In the evening, we enjoyed our last 5-course dinner at the hotel before travelling home on Saturday morning.
