The Production

With the start of production of the Última Edición on 10 July 2003, Volkswagen de México in Puebla marked the end of production of the legendary Beetle. The last Beetle rolled off the production line on 30 July 2003 and is now on display in the Zeithaus at Autostadt Wolfsburg. A total of 3,000 of the Última Edición (UE) special edition cars were built in Aquarius Blue (1,500 units) with grey and Harvest Moon Beige (1,500 units) with black interior. The Beetle with 1.6 litre petrol engine has an output of 37 KW (50 PS).

The pictures below were taken during the last days of the Beetle's production and are intended to illustrate the processes involved. From the press shop, through the body shop and paint shop, to final assembly and final inspection. The production standard was maintained by Volkswagen AG until the very end. A total of 21,529,464 Beetles were built worldwide, 1,711,750 of them in Mexico alone at the Puebla plant.
