VW Beetle convention in Tossa de Mar

From 26 to 28 September 2025, Alexander and Michael from the K-UE e.V. took part in the 31st Beetle Meeting in Tossa de Mar, Spain, organised by the Volkswagen Friends of Catalonia (https://www.avwc.org/index.php). They were able to experience first-hand the unique way in which only the Catalans can combine partying and Beetle meetings.
On their trip to Spain in their 1984 Mexican Beetle with 34 hp, the travellers took plenty of time to explore France and visited UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as the royal saltworks at Arc-et-Senans, the town of Beaune with its historic hospital, the city of Avignon with the Papal Palace and the famous bridge, and the nearby Pont du Gare, a Roman aqueduct. They then reached the Mediterranean Sea in their Beetle and crossed the Pyrenees. They then arrived in Tossa de Mar, a beautiful town with a medieval centre and city walls near Barcelona. The rugged Mediterranean coastline is ideal for long walks. On Thursday, the two Germans were given a very warm welcome by the local club and driven around the Cala Pola campsite, which was the centre of the meeting, in the ID Buzz.
On Friday evening, there was a White Party with music from the 80s and a lively atmosphere. On Saturday, there was a competition with historic suitcases and a race with Hot Wheels VW models (the highlight being the VW Brasilia). In the afternoon, the Beetles were exhibited in Tossa de Mar on the beach and on the beach promenade in front of the castle, where the motto of the meeting, the ‘Brazilian Carnival’, was celebrated on stage. There was also an entertaining scavenger hunt through Tossa de Mar. Beetles and buses were also dressed up in carnival costumes. On Sunday, the central Avinguda de Catalunya hosted a parts market, drag races, a sand course and the award ceremony for the most beautiful vehicles. Alexander and Michael received the trophy for the longest journey on their own wheels. A total of 243 registered vehicles took part, about half of them VW Beetles. These included several VW1200 L produced in Mexico, including a velvet red one from 1984, and several 1600 i's. Many of the vehicles were in excellent condition. The return journey to Germany provided an opportunity to visit Girona, other World Heritage Sites in medieval Carcassonne, Roman buildings in Vienne and the citadel of Besançon. After more than 2,000 kilometres, the travellers arrived safely back home.
