Early travellers had the chance to visit the Schär coconut weaving mill in Eisenschmitt, which is the only one of its kind still in operation in Germany and is now run by the 4th generation.
The reception at the Vulcano-Lindenhof Hotel was accompanied by Mexican dancing in traditional costumes. Due to heavy rain and flooding, the 17 May 2024 had to be reorganised on site. The boat trip and treetop walk were cancelled, but the Beetles still managed to travel through the Ayler Krupp vineyards with the fire brigade and then enjoy a coffee at the Ayler Hütte. The Ayler Verein's music band played there in good spirits despite the constant rain. The Beetles then drove to the Saarstein Castle winery for wine tasting and dinner.
On 18 May 2024, the Beetles explored the Eifel, starting with a trip to the geyser in Wallenborn, followed by a visit to the Weinfelder Maar. After a lunch stop at the Heidsmühle, the Beetles headed to the Meerfelder Maar. Karl Weiler, an expert on the Eifel and the maar, joined us and gave us all the lowdown. Two covered wagons took the participants to the viewing tower, and afterwards, there was a refreshing surprise when the Italian ice cream van pulled up.
On 29 May 2024, we visited Saarburg, where two historic fire engines accompanied the Beetles into the town centre. The mayor welcomed the Beetle fans in the district administrator's garden with local wines, and the participants were treated to a fantastic view of the Saar and the surrounding area. The guided tour of the Bell Museum was a real highlight, and the afternoon was free. That evening, there was a gala reception at the Vulcano-Lindenhof Hotel where the K-UE Club presented the participants with a 'drop' to mark the club's 20th anniversary.The wooden frame was designed in the Ore Mountains, and the centre part is made of bobbin lace, which is a dying craft.
The Daun Wildlife and Adventure Park was visited by the Beetles on 20 May 2024 and was a highlight of this 20th K-UE Beetle Meeting.
