New VW Beetle member

The VW Beetle Club Última Edición e.V. writes Beetle history. New registration of a Beetle 14 years after production ceased!

On 30 July 2003, production of the legendary VW Beetle ceased at the VW plant in Puebla, Mexico. Production officially ceased with the special Última Edición series; 1500 Beetles were produced in the colour Aquariusblue and 1500 Beetles in the colour Harvestmoonbeige. The lack of an OBD lamp had initially prevented the last of the genre from being registered in this country; however, after protracted negotiations involving the media, politics and club interests, registration as a new car was approved, but with a time limit.

Since then, the VW Beetle Club Última Edición e.V. has repeatedly lobbied on behalf of many club members to still get Beetles registered. Now it is making Beetle history itself: After 13.5 years of production stoppage, club president Walter Köhler managed to get another "virgin" Beetle registered on 1 February 2017.

This means that the club now owns both an Aquarius Blue and a Harvestmoon Beige Última Edición Beetle; a long pursued goal. Further Beetle registrations are no longer possible; the last UE Beetle built was delivered to the AUTOSTADT collection in Wolfsburg immediately after production ended.

In our VW Beetle Club, all Beetles are welcome.
