Ride across the Swabian Alb of the Sureños
Club member Tim again did the organising. Eight VW Beetles, including 5 Mexicans from 1982 to 2003, one 1303 and two 1303 Cabriolets, were at the start with members and non-members of the K-UE including a Peruvian Beetle owner.
We started with an early breakfast on the spacious terrace of club member Jörg in Merklingen. Special thanks to him and his parents. From there, the tour continued via the Kleine Lautertal and Blaustein over a scenic route to Oberdischingen. There, the Beetles were parked in front of the representative building of the chancellery and attracted a lot of attention. The participants were given a short guided tour through the historic core of the small town. Oberdischingen surprises with the baroque Herrengasse, built especially for Maria Antoinette's bridal procession in 1770, with a 600-metre-long chestnut avenue and a church built from 1800 onwards, modelled on the Panthéon in Paris. We learned about the machinations of the "Malefizschenk". After a short drive on, we had lunch at the Zum Schillerstein forest restaurant in Gleißenburg, where the alpacas housed there delighted the Beetle drivers. Afterwards, we went on a joint tour of the impressive Laichingen Deep Cave with its interesting cave museum. After these impressions, the Beetles continued on to the Reußenstein castle ruins, which date back to 1270 and are located at 760 metres above sea level on a rocky reef on the Alb ridge. After coffee and cake at Hofgut Reußenstein, we visited the castle and enjoyed the impressive view. A rain shower accompanied the end of a wonderful day. So we hope for bigger meetings again in 2021!
